There are a variety of methods that may be used to test a child’s hearing abilities, and many ways that hearing tests for children can be fun and interactive.
While infants and some younger children require testing using specialized equipment (often performed in a hospital setting), older children can usually be assessed in a private practice audiology clinic setting, such as ours. Depending on the age of the child, our audiologist may play various “listening games” with the child, including listening for beeps and repeating words, to determine the softest levels at which the child is able to hear. Additional tests may be performed to check for fluid buildup behind the eardrum and to check the function of the hearing organ.
Our audiologists will discuss the results of the testing and any recommendations following the assessment. Most children enjoy going through the hearing testing process and leave with a smile on their face.
