HANNAH LEE
M.Sc., R.Aud., Director of Audiology
First of all, what is your name and official position at The Hearing Loss Clinic: Hannah – Director of Audiology, Alberta Region – North Hill, Fernie, Golden, sometimes Crowfoot…wherever I am needed!
Any fun nicknames you’re known by? HB – Hannah Banana
What is your go to coffee order? I still have never developed a taste for coffee, so chai tea latte for me!
What drew you to the world of audiology? I have always felt that audiology is this real cool mix of medical world, the technological world, and the people world. I love putting together the pieces of the puzzle to figure out the next steps or solutions for clients, and I also love seeing all of the advancements in technology. Most of all though, I love that I get to see people from all walks of life and work with the to reach their hearing and communication goals.
What is the best part of your job? Developing relationships and friendships with clients – some people I’ve seen for so long they feel like family!
What do you love about the neighbourhood your clinic is located in? Golden and Fernie – the stunning views. North Hill – beautiful, neighbourhood for lunchtime walks. Crowfoot – the Vietnamese restaurant next door!
What is one of your favourite work memories? Doing a team-building ropes course in Whistler for one of our retreats. It was terrifying, as I’m not great with heights, but I felt so great that I was able to do the whole thing!
What is your secret talent? I am very good at knowing what’s going on around me and paying attention to multiple things at once – maybe a skill that comes from having two young children and making sure the house isn’t being destroyed while I’m in the middle of three other tasks!
What is your work goal in the world of audiology? I would love to see a world where hearing checks and treatment for hearing loss are a normal part of life, just like any check-up at the doctor. It surprises me that there are still a significant stigma for many people about “being old” and not wanting to check their hearing or treat their hearing loss. When people finally do seek treatment, they are usually amazed at the things they’ve been missing and notice a significant improvement in their quality of life. Like any other aspect of health, I think being pro-active with hearing health is so important and I would love to see this as more of a norm!
