GILLIAN TAYLOR
M.Cl.Sc., R.Aud., Clinical Audiologist
First of all, what is your name and official position at The Hearing Loss Clinic: My name is Gillian and I am a Clinical Audiologist working at the North Hill Clinic.
Any fun nicknames you’re known by? Gilly and Beans
What is your go to coffee order? London Fog or cappuccino.
What drew you to the world of audiology? My little sister has worn a hearing aid since she was a kid so I grew up going to all of her audiology appointments with her. I was fascinated by hearing aids and inspired by the resilience she showed growing up with a hearing loss. She still inspires me every day!
What is the best part of your job? Hearing about all the new sounds people can hear after being fit with hearing aids for the first time.
What is your favourite thing about the clinic you work in? Working with my girls Angie, Brianna, Barb, and Hannah!
What do you love about the neighbourhood your clinic is located in? Being close to the C-Train is great! And there is never a shortage of interesting characters to see shopping in the North Hill Mall!
What is one of your favourite work memories? One day a patient hid in the soundbooth while I went to clean his hearing aids. When I came back into the office he popped out and scared me!
What is your work goal in the world of audiology? My main goal is to somehow help reduce the stigma behind wearing hearing aids. No one thinks twice about having to wear glasses, but for some reason there is still a stigma around wearing hearing aids. I hope that I can help people have such a great experience with their hearing aids that they want to tell their family and friends about them instead of keeping them a secret. Having open conversations about hearing aids and hearing loss will help people advocate for themselves, make friends and family better communicators, and help lessen the stigma (hopefully!).
